Review of the Taming of the Shrew
2005 ''The Taming of the Shrew'' is an adaptation of William Shakespeare 's play of the same name. This is a funny comedy with talented actors such as Shirley Henderson (Katherina), Rufus Sewell (Petruchio). Jaime Murray (Bianca), Stephen Tompkinson (Harry), Twiggy Lawson (Mrs Minola), David Mitchell (Tim Agnew).
I really loved watching this movie. It is a movie about strange and extraordinary love story between Katherina and Petruchio. Katherina is a politician running for leadership of the opposition, who one day aims to be Prime Minister. Her style is very conservative. This can be seen from her dress, hairstyle and she wears no makeup. She is unpleasant, strange, unsightly, surly and always dissatisfied with everything. Even she is 38 years old, but still virgin. It seemed that this women could never get married. However, Petruchio, seduced her and they eventually married. The dialogue between Katherina and Petruchio was brilliant. Petruchio is forthright man, who came to the wedding wearing high heels, makeup, velvet coat and miniskirt. That was very funny.
Katherina's sister and mother are two completely different personalities, both character and appearance. Her sister and mother wears many jewelry and fashion, colorful clothes. They really likes the attention of men and they are very confident and admired. I noticed, that Katherina's mother wears purple color. In many episodes she wears purple makeup or clothes or some accessories.
At least Katherina wore the white dress, as it should be in the wedding. But she still kept her hair in the bun, which in the honey moon became half down.
I suggest for everyone to watch this movie and try to empathize into this extraordinary love story.
